"Nettiquette Haiku"

The Solo and Small Firm Internet Group of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Committee of the Missouri Bar
Over the years, we have adopted by consensus a "Code of Conduct" on the SFIG:   simple suggestions we have chosen to abide by.  We have fought to ensure, this "house", this home for a "Family" of Solo and Small Firm Lawyers remain FREE and UNMODERATED!  It remains so.  Several years ago, I composed a Haiku to share these "guidelines".  For the new members of this little  "Family",   this is, by consensus, what we have agreed to:

From the Members of SFIG:

Greets to you and yours:
over 667 will share.
"Play Nice" and you'll learn.

1. Put the "real" topic of your post in the topic or subject line.

Too many are swamped.
Choose your topic line with care,
to ensure answers.

2. Use a signature block to close your post, please include name, address and contact information.

Share with us who asks.
An answer will come forthwith.
But where to send it?

3. Argue the point, not the person.

We are family.
Feel free to share your viewpoint,
without attacking.

Attack the message
but never the messenger:
we are family.

4. Use "NLS", "ADM", or "POL" for off topic posts.

"NLS"

"Non Legal Stuff" is
sharing parts of daily life:
to be together.

"ADM"

"Administration":
of office and personnel,
to make more money.

and/or, (with special thanks to my Dear Friend Gary Bollinger)

TECH-nical issues:
computers crash, spam abounds...
compile answers here

"POL"

Political faith,
like cow patties in a field,
splatter when stepped on.

5. Warnings of Viruses & Hoaxes. Do not imbed pictures or graphics in posts: no attachments.

Research what you post.
Please don't cry "wolf" needlessly:
here, some will believe.

pictures or graphics
may be worth a thousand words,
don't risk infecting others.

6. Eschew the temptation to join the chorus.

"Me Too" means nothing.
Contribute your new insights.
Help all see YOUR view.

7. Discretion is the Better Part of Posting. Keep private posts private.

Keep client's secrets.
Don't ask questions that reveal
an identity.

private, means private
never share private emails
without permission

chose words carefully
curse words serve no real purpose
they show ignorance
