Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of September 23, 2005. Wayne Greer is the MoBar MIS director, (think of him as the custodian that keeps our little "house" in order.) He is one hell of a nice guy, always helpful and with a wicked sense of humor. He is every bit as much a member of our little "SFIG Family" as you and I. Wayne had a heart attack last Tuesday night and underwent surgery on Wednesday. His prognoses is good. The SFIG was created to be a support group. So share with me ... how did you react to the email on the SFIG that said, "If you wish to send him [Wayne] prayers/good wishes ... prepare an email, send it to the SFIG, I will print the email and Susan has volunteered to put them together into a "scrap book" for Wayne."?   Did you take a moment and think to yourself ... "Don't know him personally ... but then, there are so many on the list I don't know who have helped me out ... think I'll send a little note of encouragement. Wouldn't cost me anything. And besides, it would be a nice thing to do. Put a smile on his lips, when he probably damn well could use one."  49 folks, out of 465 "Family" members, on the list .... did.  Guess, like any "Family", there are those who give ... and there are those who take. <looking you squarely in the face and shaking my head> ...... so ..... which were you? <whispering> .... to the 49 who responded .... KNOW, that if you post a question, or ask for my help .... you can count on it ..... because you have shown, you would be there for me/one of us. 'Nuff Said.

China Daily: "A rubber company in China has begun marketing condoms under the brand names Clinton and Lewinsky, apparently seeking to exploit the White House affair that led to the impeachment of America's 42nd president. ... "The Clinton condom will be the top of our line," he said. "The Lewinsky condom is not quite as good." Not quite as good? Just what does that mean? Isn't it like saying, "This tire is our top of the line model, high speed rated, with an 80,000 mile warrantee ... while this tire, has no speed rating, and has a 20,000 mile warrantee, buy it at your own risk?." Which would you buy, for those times, "when the rubber meets the road"?

URBANA, Ill. - Protein Diet, Exercise Aids Weight Loss. "A high-protein diet can make regular exercise more effective for women trying to lose weight _ helping to build muscle while trimming body fat, a small study suggests .... In a four-month period, the protein-rich diet along with exercise significantly reduced abdominal fat and triglycerides, risk factors for heart disease, according to findings published in the August issue of the Journal of Nutrition." I have news, if you take in more calories than you burn, you WILL gain weight. I have maintained my weight now for over 1 1/2 years. As you know, I went from a 48 portly to a 44 regular, suit size, (48" waist to a 36" waist). The diet I developed for me, will work for you as well. You don't have to buy a book: just go to my diet Webpage, http://www.karltimmerman.com/diet.html . It explains the diet and provides links to over 15,000 recipes. No diet works in the long term. You can starve yourself and drop a few pounds, but to keep them off, you have to change the way you look at food. "My Diet" works because it is not a "diet", it is just a different way of eating: with an emphasis on low fat protein and complex carbs, not the fully processed, mechanically half digested crap you routinely eat now. Want to lose weight? Tired of having to install overload springs in your mattress? Tired of having a "Wide Load" sign, strapped to your *ss? Tired of having to buy your clothes from "Emil the Tentmaker"? Then do something about it.

Al Jazeera, "Beer and spirits drinkers face a higher risk of colorectal tumors, but wine drinkers may have a lower risk, says a report in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. ... Patients defined as heavy beer or spirits drinkers had more than twice the risk of developing significant colorectal tumors, compared with abstainers or moderate consumers, the authors reported. Moderate wine drinkers, on the other hand, faced about half the risk experienced by abstainers." Only proves something men have suspected for ages ... not only can beer farts be killers .... but they will corrode the container, in which they form. (I have never heard of a wine fart ... have you?)

FEMA veteran, (CNN): Bosses lack disaster experience. "Veteran federal disaster workers say they warned their bosses that Hurricane Katrina would create an epic disaster in the Gulf Coast. But their bosses, political appointees with almost no emergency management experience, didn't seem to share the sense of urgency, a Federal Emergency Management Agency veteran says." And in other finger pointing: ( AP) -- "Eight years ago Congress ordered the Federal Emergency Management Agency to develop a plan for evacuating New Orleans during a severe hurricane, but the money instead went to study the causeway bridge that spans nearby Lake Pontchartrain, officials say." While our President said: ( CNN) -- "... his plan for federal projects to rebuild the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina will be expensive, "but I'm confident we can handle it and our other priorities ... The nation will "have to cut unnecessary spending," he said." ... <whispering> .... how about we start by doing away with the "no bid" reconstruction contracts being awarded to Halliburton? And, on the news this morning, parts of New Orleans are flooding again, due to Rita, (projected to hit landfall in Texas, this evening.) Louisiana's governor, (Kathleen Blaco), suggested that folks who chose to remain in New Orleans, write their social security numbers, with indelible ink, on their arms. Did I mention that: WHEELER RIDGE, California (AP) -- "A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook an area north of Los Angeles early Friday, one day after a series of quakes rumbled through the region." Wheeler Ridge, California has a very large gay community. Rumor has it, that Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson believe there is a pattern here. God wanted to wipe out the sinners in New Orleans but failed because almost all of them moved to Texas, (and the gay ones moved to Wheeler Ridge, California.). so He is taking another shot at it.

HERZLIYA, Israel (AP) -- "Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal was lauded Friday as "the conscience of the Holocaust" as he was laid to rest in Israel, the country that grew out of the ashes of those dark days. ... Enlisted by the Americans to research war criminals, he spent more than 50 years hunting Nazi war criminals, speaking out against neo-Nazism and racism, and to being a voice for the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust." Simon Wiesenthal helped bring over 1,100 German war criminals to justice. A remarkable man, who truly did make a difference. But, where are the likes of Simon Wiesenthal to seek justice, speak out, on behalf of the 50 million victims of the Soviet Gulags? Uganda, Rwanda? Bosnia? Cambodia? Sudan? Zimbabwe? Look in the mirror: doesn't speaking out against injustice start with one voice, having the courage to speak out?

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Einstein the genius and lover revealed. "Albert Einstein was the outstanding genius of the 20th century, but he was also an ordinary man who had many affairs during his two marriages ... He loved both of his wives but he went actively seeking the affairs, and women also sought him out," He married Elsa Löwenthal, his cousin, after divorcing his first wife, in 1919. At first, I thought he had stumbled on the "Theory of Relativity" after marring her, (after all, she was a relative). Go figure, he was a genius, how else could he keep his extra marital affairs, under covers, so to speak.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -- "The Dutch government will begin tracking every citizen from cradle to grave in a single database, opening a personal electronic dossier for every child at birth with health and family data, and eventually adding school and police records." Can you picture this being proposed in our America?

Saw a commercial on TV for "K-Y Touch Message Oil". Skillman, NJ -- "The K-Y® Brand is excited to debut ground breaking new products designed to enhance romance and intimacy. K-Y® Touch Massage Oil is a brand new line of uniquely scented massage oils and the world’s first and only body massage oil and personal lubricant in one." Not that I worry about such things ... but ... I wonder ... if my proctologist keeps on top of the latest advancements in "personal lubrication" technologies?

Sitting here editing these Ramblings and checking links, while sipping on some Sherry. Next Friday, Andrew and I will be teaching the "Paint Them a Picture" CLE in Springfield. We will be there Thursday afternoon. Care to join us for supper? On the news tonight, Rita will hit Port Arthur, Texas. The town has been evacuated, except for some folks, who have decided that the laws of physics don't apply to them, (perhaps they should heed Governor Blanco's advice). Massive flooding is expected. Two refineries are in it's path. Some folks are projecting $5.00/gallon gas prices, (still love your "Hummer"?). In other news, 3,000 violent sex offenders from New Orleans, have gone missing, after Katrina. Perhaps some have been offered shelter and a place to stay, by some nice, caring family, in the mid-west ... maybe they will offer to provide daycare for their hosts children, while the parents are at work. How's that for a nightmare scenario? Avian Flu is on a roll in Indonesia. Course, everyone is down playing it. Get your Tamiflu yet?

Susan is working on Wayne's Scrap Book, (it will have 49 pages ... each containing the email of the sender ... and if possible, the sender's picture ... from the SFIG Family Album), in her "office". Share with me ... what would you do, if you suffered an illness? Do you have a plan in place? I never really thought about it ... but I'm thinking about it now! So should you. Be and sleep well, (you didn't have to evacuate your home .... did you?) .... the best there is, is on watch so you can. [Care to join me in a prayer/sending good wishes, for all our displaced friends and neighbors? ... and dear to my heart, our men and women in uniform? <whispering> ..... Please, Please, Please, God, let ALL of them come/return home, safe and soon!!  If my post offends, I apologize, that is not my intent. As always ...

A Warm Brotherly Hug

Karl (the dumb ole country lawyer, from Holden, Missouri)
