Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of August 18, 2006. ElGene V. and I attended the "Governors Breakfast" at the State Fair yesterday. [Pictures] Interesting experience. Missouri's political "who's who" was there. For me, the best part was having a chance to visit with Major General King E. Sidwell, Adjutant General, Missouri National Guard. I took the opportunity to thank him and his troops for their service to our America. It surprised him a tad, that I did. I shared, I was a very small voice in a crescendo of "thank yous''. It pleases me to no end, to know ... that there is a crescendo of "thanks" for our men and women in uniform. I ate with Thomas F. Simon, Clerk of our Supreme Court. We chatted about the needs of Solo and Small Firm lawyers ... specifically a "Vacation Rule" and a universal picture ID. He was most interested. For the charity auction ... the Fair's prize winning ham sold for $13,000.00!!!! A dumb ole country lawyer like me, could not believe that someone actually bid $13,000.00!!! The prize winning bacon was much cheaper: $7,500.00!!  This is an entirely different world   ...   perhaps a parallel universe?

SYDNEY, Australia (Reuters) -- Aussies on lookout for ugly sheep. "Australian scientists have called on the country's farmers to report any ugly sheep found in their flocks." Well, sheesh! Why don't they just call some folks in Wyoming!! .... <whispering> ... don't you wonder what the criteria is? Like ... with or without makeup? Nude, or with their wool coat on? Would dressing them in pantyhose improve their looks? Ultimately, there is no accounting for taste   ...   is there!!!??

DULUTH, Minnesota (AP) -- Country star accused of illegally killing tame bear. "Troy Lee Gentry, of the country singing duo Montgomery Gentry, has been accused of killing a tame black bear that federal officials say he tagged as killed in the wild ... Authorities allege that Gentry purchased the bear from Greenly, a wildlife photographer and hunting guide, then killed it with a bow and arrow in an enclosed pen on Greenly's property in October 2004 ... Gentry allegedly paid about $4,650 for the bear, named Cubby. The bear's death was videotaped, and the tape later edited so Gentry appeared to shoot the animal in a "fair chase" hunting situation," "Fair Chase" hunting: you take an animal, put it on your ranch/farm/backyard and charge some "sportsman" to kill it. " Fair Chase Hunting Service is committed to excellence. Our guides are knowledgeable, experienced professionals whose goal is to provide a safe, successful, and enjoyable hunt for all clients ... All ranches are located within close proximity to comfortable lodging." Wonder if the heros that kill their $4,500-7,500 Elk ... carry enough quarters for the vibrating bed in their "comfortable lodging." Course, you could kill some animal without leaving the comfort of your home: HOUSTON (Reuters) - Game hunting via Internet?   "Officials wary   -  Hunters soon may be able to sit at their computers and blast away at animals on a Texas ranch via the Internet, a prospect that has state wildlife officials up in arms."   So share with me ... what kind of person considers an animal he/she killed,  by hitting the   ...  <Enter>   ...  button on their personal computer a "trophy"?   Obviously, a human subspecies:   family "Hominidae",  genus, "Homo",  species, "Homo Sapien",  subspecies, "nunc gonadus scumbagus".    [In lay terms?    ...   some scumbag, who lives vicariously and doesn't have the cojones to go out and kill what he eats and needs to hang dead stuff on his walls to make him feel like a man.]

BOSTON, Massachusetts (Reuters) -- Centenarians say faith is source of longevity. "Faith and spirituality were cited most often by people over the age of 100 as the source of their longevity, according to a survey sponsored by a unit of United Health Group.  In a survey of 100 people between the ages of 100 and 104,  23 percent said faith rather than genes and good medical care were responsible for their long life."   Guess, only God knows.   So share with me  ...   what is the life expectancy of an atheist?

PRAVDA --- Drunk man bets to cut off his penis for 2,000 USD and wins the bet.  "For the first time in the history of Latvian medicine, doctors sewed back on the reproductive organ of a man, which he had cut off himself  ...  Doctors in Gailezertz hospital in Riga informed journalists that there had been cases before where a partially amputated penis had had to be restored. However, this was the first time that genitals had been brought to the hospital in a packet. According to the doctors, the incident was due to stupidity on the part of the patient. Whilst drinking alcohol with friends, he had argued with them that for 1000 lat, (about 2000 dollars), he would cut off his own "manhood".  He won the bet."   I guess Latvians don't adhere to the good old American maxim, "Friends don't let friends cut off their penis"?   So share with me   ...   just how drunk would you have to be?  ...  and  ... ewwwwww ...   who packaged up the family jewels to bring to the hospital? ...   <whispering>  ...   don't you wonder if he actually collected the $2,000.00?   And if so, before or after?

CNN (Court TV) -- Teen battles state over cancer treatment. "In Virginia, age 16 is old enough to drive a car, work a 40-hour week, stand trial in adult court, and marry. Whether 16 is old enough to reject traditional cancer treatment is at the heart of a trial slated to begin next week on the Eastern Shore town of Accomac. Starchild Abraham Cherrix, a 16-year-old suffering from Hodgkin's disease, has refused chemotherapy and radiation treatments ordered by his oncologist in favor of an herbal remedy prescribed by a Mexican clinic."  According to  "The Herbal Remedy Chart",  Broccoli  is a powerful herbal medicine:   "Recent research indicates that Broccoli contains a substance called Sulforaphane that has been shown in animal studies to dramatically reduce the number, size, and reproduction of malignant tumors, as well as delay the onset of these tumors. This appears to relate directly to cancer risk in humans, particularly in breast, stomach, colon, rectal, and lung cancers, and it is believed to be a powerful preventative for these diseases." Unfortunately, the "recent research" cited, was conducted by "Creation Science" scientists in Kansas. [Footnote: the Virginia court will allow this young man to get the treatment of his choice. Certainly supports the reason we used to draft 18 year olds: they are stupid.]

Der Spiegel -- A Phallus Garden in "Love Land". "There's a persistent prejudice against the Japanese, the Koreans and other Asians -- that they're prudish and repressed. But go to "Love Land" on Cheju Island in South Korea and you'll start to question that cliché. I can still remember the feeling of disbelief when I turned the corner in a well-heeled, respectable Tokyo neighborhood to find myself face-to-face with a porn cinema. Not only that, but on the shopping street nearby, a poster display advertised the cinema's selection of lewd flicks with maximum explicitness. A respectable-looking man in a suit stood in front of the display in broad daylight, inspecting the images like a true connoisseur."  Sure would never go over big at "Worlds of Fun"!!   I wonder why, as a society, we are so repressed, about any issues dealing with sex?   In my teens,  I know it came as a shock to me   ...   that my parents  ...  did "IT".   Wasn't it a shock to you as well?   I grew up watching the "Cleaver Family"  ... and the "Brady Bunch".   Even watched Dr. Huxtable on the "Bill Cosby Show". TV is different now. More explicit ... frankly ... in my opinion: raw. A bag full of "reality shows"  and  "America's <fill in the blanks>.   Guess that's the reason I watch the "History Channel".

Sitting here editing these Ramblings, the evening news just finished. My "Little Buddy" is sharing my chair. I spent yesterday and today campaigning. I was brought up not to "blow my horn", be modest ... that humility is a virtue. You have no idea how hard it is to walk up to a total stranger, stick out your hand ... and say ... "Hi. My name is Karl Timmerman ... I'm running to be your Associate Circuit Judge .... let me tell you how great I am!! Goes against everything I was taught. The good news I suppose ... is .... people expect and forgive you for being a self serving blowhard. Somehow, judicial candidates having to do so ... is offensive to me. I have learned alot about the campaign process. The most important lesson being .... a political campaign runs on money! I have none left. You spend what you have, to win in the primary ... makes no sense holding back funds ... and coming in second. So now, "Act 2" ... the general election in November. My opponent has all of her funds ... I have none ... and ... <sigh> ..... I need to raise money all over again. Guess I am the "CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF" .... (Tennessee Williams) .... having to rely "on the charity of strangers"! Hi there stranger ... should you wish to make a contribution, you may do so at http://www.timmermanforjudge.com/,  just click on "donate", (any amount up to $325.00)  ...

My best friend, partner, lover and Lady ... is here walking with me. I don't know what I did in life to deserve such a wonderful Lady ... guess all I can do is say prayer of Thanks .... and a prayer for you and the safe return of our men and women in uniform, (care to join me?) ... <whispering> .... Please, Please, Please, God ... let them come home, safe and soon!! Be and sleep well, there are folks on watch, so you can. If my post offends, I apologize .... that is not my intent. As always ....

A Warm Brotherly Hug

Karl (the dumb ole country lawyer from Holden, Missouri)
