Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of May 12, 2006. Belle,
(Susan's other "furry baby"), has mouth cancer. Last month, our Vet
cut out what he could and advised, she had a limited amount of time remaining
because, in his opinion, (and also a second opinion by a different Vet), the
cancer had metastasized. Susan and I talked about the options: basically, chemo
and radiation therapy. We talked about bringing her to an oncologist. And
decided not to. How could we explain to her, the reason we would take her to a
place, where they hurt her and for a week afterward, she would feel terrible
... and do it again the following week? We decided not to put her through that.
Just love her ... make her as comfortable as we could ... and when she started
showing pain ... help her go. Then Justy, (Susan's other "furry
baby"), in a matter of 48 hours, even with the efforts of two Vets and a
"Specialist", passed on to the Rainbow
Bridge. And then, there was/remains Belle, this loving, tail wagging, ball
of licking love. She is dying. But then ... so are you and I. Aren't we? Susan
asked, "How could a loving God, give us such a gift, such love ... and
then take both away?" Don't know. How do you make sense of it? I suppose,
if you believe this reality is all there is ... you can't, it doesn't matter.
Just a role of the dice, what happens, happens. Then, there is also the
possibility there is order in our reality. There is more than this
"place", there is a "plan". I told Susan Justy is waiting
for Belle and for us. That there are two other little Yorkies, really in need
of love, waiting to become part of our lives ... become Timmerman children ...
and have people that LOVE them, (even if they piss on every corner of Ft.
Timmerman!!). I'm sitting here, it is Tuesday evening ... and Belle has trouble
breathing, fighting for every breath ... there is no doubt, she is hurting ...
and it is time ... <weeping, while holding Susan> ... in the
morning, we will call Dr. Morgan, (without a doubt, the most caring Vet, I have
ever had the privilege of knowing ... wept with us ... when Justy passed ...
and did not ask us to pay for his services, in helping her pass), and help
Belle join Justy ... to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge. I truly believe they
are waiting. They are. The passing of a dog, does not rise to the level of the
passing of a "human", (for some it does). But wouldn't an all
powerful, all loving, "God", love all His creations? I would like to
believe, He loved Justy and Belle, every bit as much, as Susan and I. Our lives
don't revolve around great cosmic issues, (at least not Susan and I's). They
revolve around small things, not important to any other persons. But important,
none the less, to us. 'Nuff said. [Postscript: Belle passed peacefully away
... being held by Susan ... and Susan telling her how much she loved her.
Perhaps God took Justy and Belle early because there are two other little
Yorkies, out there, that really, really, really need to be rescued.]
And should you need reinforcement, that some members of our species have no soul: PEMBROKE PINES, Florida (CNN) -- Sick puppies dog some online purchasers. "Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, singer Jon Secada and the Osbournes, known for their hit MTV show, all have one thing in common: They bought dogs from the same place. But a CNN investigation finds the company that sold them their pets has many unhappy customers. The Wizard of Claws, also know as Celebrity Kennels, is based in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The company is run by husband and wife team Jim and Gilda Anderson. They've been in business about five years and offer what they describe as top-of-the-line teacup- and toy-size dogs on the Internet, for as much as $5,000 each." These folks are an on-line pet store, not subject to the "Animal Welfare Act", (like breeders). Care to learn more about these wastes of skin? Take a look at http://www.stopwizardofclaws.com/ .
(CNN) Health -- U.S. has second worst newborn death rate in modern world, report says. "An estimated 2 million babies die within their first 24 hours each year worldwide and the United States has the second worst newborn mortality rate in the developed world, according to a new report. American babies are three times more likely to die in their first month as children born in Japan, and newborn mortality is 2.5 times higher in the U.S. than in Finland, Iceland or Norway, Save the Children researchers found. ... But the report also concluded that political will was more important than national wealth. A "newborn scorecard" ranking 78 developing nations found that some relatively impoverished countries -- including Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Vietnam -- fare better than others." Interesting isn't it? Even with our America having the MOST expensive health care system in the modern world, some countries have a lower infant mortality rate AND their citizens have a longer life expectancy. What does it say about our society, when we have such focus on the unborn and abandon them, once they leave the womb? What does it say about our society, when medical malpractice kills 80,000 - 90,000 of us yearly ... and our elected representatives limit the liability of those responsible? If accountability does not lead to change, share with me, what will?
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- Polygamous sect leader makes FBI's most wanted. "The FBI announced Saturday it has placed polygamist church leader Warren Jeffs on the agency's 10 most-wanted list, hoping the additional exposure and reward money leads to an arrest in the long-running investigation ... The sect split from mainstream Mormonism after the broader church renounced polygamy in 1890. The mainstream LDS church excommunicates members found to be practicing polygamy." So the FBI put this guy on the list after 116 years? Talk about a "long running investigation"? Guess being polygamous has some real longevity benefits, (this Dude must be at least 126 years old!!). Isn't the real issue "consent", or "privacy"? Adults marrying children was, is and remains offensive to me! But, I also believe adults, (the operative word being "Adults"), should have the ability, to decide for themselves, the relationships they wish to engage in. (Isn't that one of the fundamental "Freedom of Association " or penumbra "Privacy" rights, guaranteed by our Constitution?) All kidding aside, (no pun intended). Most States set the age of majority at 18 ... some 21. So share with me, why ... we allow persons to marry at an age lower, than the age required for them to vote, smoke, drink and enter into any other contract? Even too young to sign a lease, for a place for them to live, after they marry? Does that make sense to you?
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Lesbians' brains respond like straight men. "Lesbians' brains react differently to sex hormones than those of heterosexual women. An earlier study of gay men also showed their brain response was different from straight men -- an even stronger difference than has now been found in lesbians ... In both cases the findings add weight to the idea that homosexuality has a physical basis and is not learned behavior." Research has also shown the same results in male lesbians. The APA has advised, (for years), that sexual orientation is a biological function. It is not a "learned" behavior. Whether you choose to act on it is another matter. You don't "cure" a sexual orientation: you can only discourage/criminalize the behavior.
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- UK: No visits from little green men. "Hopes or fears -- that the Earth has been visited by alien life forms have been dismissed in an official report by British defense specialists. The Ministry of Defense confirmed on Sunday a secret study completed in December 2000 had found no evidence that "flying saucers" or unidentified flying objects were anything other than natural phenomena." Aliens had to have landed in the British Isles! How else could you explain " Stonehenge" ... and "Austin Powers" teeth?
Der Spiegel -- The German National Anthem in Turkish? "A German politician has triggered a debate by calling for an official Turkish translation of the German national anthem to symbolize how multicultural Germany has become. But conservatives worry it would send the wrong signal about integration ... A Turkish version, he said, could demonstrate how multicultural German society has become. "I would see it as a sign of integration if citizens of Turkish descent could sing the third verse in Turkish," Hans-Christian Ströbele, a member of parliament for the opposition Greens party, told B.Z. newspaper. "It would symbolize the wide array of languages spoken in Germany." Germany, (as well as the rest of Europe), has an illegal immigration problem as well .... But an "official Turkish translation" .... a sign of integration? Give me a break! Kind of like serving steak at a vegetarian banquet, isn't it?
Sitting here editing these Ramblings, (sipping on some Zinfandel), thinking about my life and thinking about Justy and Belle. Just dogs ... but they sure made a difference in Susan and I's lives. I wonder ... have I made as much of a difference, in some life? On the evening news, the administration wants to put National Guard troops on the boarder with Mexico, to assist our Boarder Patrol with illegal immigration. Wow!! What a novel idea! Our military defending our boarders, (instead of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq). Quest was the only phone company who refused NSA's request for phone records. And a poll showed 65% of Americans had no problem with NSA monitoring phone calls, without a warrant, to protect our America from another terrorist attack. Makes you wonder how many of our liberties, "the majority", are willing to sacrifice in the name of "security", doesn't it? And in other news, the Pentagon, has a program to keep our men and women in uniform faithful to their spouses while deployed. It's called, "Every Soldiers Battle", (put out by a conservative Christian group) ... it comes in the form of a camouflage kit, containing a Bible and Bible study pamphlets. It teaches techniques to help avoid lusting in your heart, porn and masturbation. I wonder if Jimmy Carter wrote the introduction to the "lusting in your heart" chapter? Course, two out of three is not bad. And finally, California wants to mandate teaching the historical contributions of homosexuals, in public schools. Why?
Attended the MoBar Spring Committee Meeting today, (on the way I stopped in California, Missouri and gave Ann Perry a warm brotherly hug) ... then had a chance to hug several other "Family" members at the meeting, (for those of you who know me, I really do hug!!! :) I'll post some pictures, later this evening ... 754 folks have already signed up for our "Family Gathering", the Conference. There is talk of limiting enrollment: if you plan on attending, you better sign up now! I'll be in St. Louis on May 26th ... you want a hug? See you there!
My heart bleeds for Susan ... she is so sad. You and I make a living "fixing" things, solving problems ... but this is a sadness I can not "fix". She really misses her babies. I miss them as well. I know they are waiting patiently for us at the Rainbow Bridge, to get them ... but this time, it will be forever. I guess I will hold her extra close tonight as we drift off to sleep. As I always do, I will whisper a prayer of thanks ... and a prayer for our men and women in uniform, (care to join me?) ... <whispering> ... Please, Please, Please God ... let them come home safe and soon!! Be and sleep well, be thankful for what you have ... it could all be gone in a heartbeat. If my post offends, I apologize ... that is not my intent. As always ...
A Warm Brotherly Hug
